Squash & Pumpkin

Within the last 24 hours I had the opportunity to enjoy two wonderful fall foods: squash and pumpkin.  Our neighbor shared her fabulous spicy squash soup and we roasted pumpkin seeds. I hadn't enjoyed the latter since we were kids.  I knew I had good memories for a reason.

I don't have the soup recipe, but for the pumpkin seeds I just tossed them in olive oil, salt and some chili- lime seasoning, then baked them for 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees.

Squash

Another pattern with a fall goodie...a food I still haven't been brave enough to prepare in a dish.

Fruit Vegetables

You've heard the saying that a tomato is really a fruit...well, it's true.
The rest of these are also fruits.  Botanically speaking, it's anything with a seed in it.

These are also all vegetables.  Without getting too deep, the word vegetable is a culinary term, not a botanical one.  If you're cooking they are vegetables, if you're classifying plants they are fruits.  I'm sure I've over simplified this for the botanists out there, but hopefully you get the general idea.  You can find the print here.

Summer Vegetable Bake

And for our last zucchini recipe...a nice mix of several vegetables all pulled into one dish. Enjoy this delicious recipe from The Joy of Caking.

And as always you can purchase originals or prints of all these illustrations here.
