Red Delicious Apples

I'd like to celebrate Iowa foods in the next few images.  To start let's showcase a world-wide favorite...red delicious apples.  Discovered as a seedling in Madison County, Iowa in the late 1800's, it's still just as popular today.

The Apple Owl

Owls are in style once again.  My mother-in-law collected them way back and just took down her collection a few years ago.

Everything really does come back in vogue.  I wonder if she kept those owls in a box somewhere.

ABC Foods

In 2009 I created a food illustration for every letter in the alphabet...but spread them out over the whole year.  Over the next few days I'll pull them all together for another looksie. Let's start with the first three.

The Pear and Apple Tree

Sometimes you draw something and initially don't like it, then you tweak, tweak, tweak and somehow find the right formula. Both of these illustrations are the result of that oddball process. Yes, now I like them.

A is for Apple and Cinnamon Oatmeal

Happy April! This month I'll be drawing the alphabet and focusing on breakfast foods.

To make it even more fun I'll be asking for your advice on my Facebook Fan Page on which foods I should draw for each letter. If I choose the food you suggest I'll send you three recipe cards. If there are multiple guesses of the same thing, I'll just go with the first person who wrote it. Thanks to Kristina S. for the "A" food!

I won't ask for every letter, but I'll definitely ask about a lot of them. I can't wait to hear your ideas! {print available}

Apple and Peppermint Cake

I asked my daughter to give me an idea for a holiday food and she said "peppermint cake". Here it is with an apple for a touch of green.

Apple Orchards

One thing we missed this fall was the apple orchard experience. There is something so special about picking your own apples, riding in a hayrack, and just enjoying the crisp air.

Apples and Leaves

I seem to have an apple trend this week. My favorite season is sprinkled with a beautiful fruit.

Bird and Apple

You know, I just felt like drawing a bird and apple today, so I made two...

For those that might be interested, the second one is available on my Etsy Shop: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=21362133.

It's also on a playing card.

An Apple Snack

I feel pretty lucky sometimes that my kids actually crave healthy snacks. One thing they love is apples. They are happy to just crunch into them whole or we use that snazzy metal cutter that creates perfect little apple slices. Either way its a nice juicy treat. {sold}
