BREAKFAST & AN AUGUST BREAK

As the summer winds down and I rush to get my last few projects complete I thought it would be fun to follow Susannah Conway's August Break exercise - at least for the beginning of August. She'll list one word a day and encourage everyone to post a photograph inspired by it. Most of my posts will be illustrations (for obvious reasons), though I might pop a photograph in here and there. To add an extra challenge I'll make sure every word ties back to either food or gardening. Some will be easy (like today), but I might have to stretch a few.

To start off, like on any good day, here is BREAKFAST. This is one of my favorite breakfast meals, shared by a lovely British friend. This is simply eggs on toast, then I added one of my favorite drinks...a strawberry smoothie (with fruit fresh from the garden).

PANCAKES AND SYRUP

I couldn't help myself...I made the entire box of pancake mix on Monday, so we could indulge in pancakes and syrup all week.

A Cup of Milk

We've been having a heated debate over milk at our house.  Our kids (and I) like it a lot so go through it quicker than my husband thinks we should.  Between cereal snacks, flavored straws, and just pairing it with traditional PB&J it gets sucked out of the carton lickety split.  My thought...why fight it?  Its good for you.  Our kids could be craving something much worse, but the cost of it makes my husband squirm.  Maybe we should place a cow out by the garden this year instead.

Not My Cup of Tea

Sometimes I forget the popularity of coffee...not being a drinker myself.    I do admit to a little coffee flavoring in ice cream or chocolate here or there, but a cup of jo does not grace my mug each morning.  Someone did suggest I create a series of coffee images nonetheless.  Over the next few days I'll pour out some of these new illustrations paired with coffee quotes.  Enjoy.

Cereal & Sliced Bananas

A special treat for me is sliced bananas in my morning cereal.  Here they are on a postcard and fabric. I was in a retro mood that day.

Toast

My kids thrive on toast...with honey, peanut butter or just plain margarine.  Take a peak at these flying toast as a postcard or fabric.

Bacon & Eggs

My favorite meal of the day is breakfast, so I had to throw in some bacon and eggs.  This is available as a postcard and fabric.

Toast and Cereal

This month I plan to highlight some of my favorite drawings from the past two years.

I'd like to start with my favorite meal of the day...breakfast!

Check out my new fabric with these illustrations at Spoonflower.

Z is for Zucchini Bread

Here we are at letter number twenty-six...zucchini bread. This is one of my husband's specialties. We grow zucchini, freeze it, then he bakes it all winter. It's a simple, fast breakfast. Thanks to Leah M. for the suggestion via Twitter.

Thanks for following along this month. I've had tons of fun with your input. On Monday I'll be starting The Tomato Chronicles. Have a great weekend!

Y is for Yogurt

I've shifted away from cereal in the morning over to yogurt. I especially like yogurt mixed with bananas and orange juice in a blender (my simple smoothie recipe).

X is for X-tra Cheesy Omelet

I know I'm stretching it here, but omelet had to be included on this list somewhere. What's an omelet without tons of gooey cheese?

W is for Waffles

This is a favorite at our house and just can't be left off the list! Wow, only three letters to go...

S is for Scrambled Eggs and Sausage

One of my son's favorite snacks is scrambled eggs...made in the microwave. Easy, fast and healthy to boot. I guess there are worst things he could be eating.

P is for Pancake

My kids love pancakes. They live for them every weekend and get slightly angry when they are not in the house.
