Ice Cube Trays

Well, we made it through chilly January on ice.

See you on Monday, when we move on to cocktails...and painting on drink coasters. I'm looking forward to the change.

Double-Stick Popsicles

I was just thinking about those double-stick popsicles...and how we always used to break them in half on the edge of the counter. You push hard enough to snap them gently, then shared them with a friend. {print available}

Hawaiian Shave Ice

I had a request to post a Hawaiian shave (no "d") ice illustration. My question...what is the difference between this and a snowcone? Snowcones are crushed ice and shave ice are very finely shaved ice (of course!). So fine, that the flavor is soaked into the ice, rather than falling to the bottom of the cup. {There you go Denise!}

Iced Hot Cocoa

Not sure if it's the ice theme or my need to create, but I've been experimenting with a iced hot cocoa recipe. In its simplest form I just mix hot cocoa mix with water, then throw in a bunch of ice. I'm trying to take it to the next level with crushed ice, chocolate chips and whipped cream. I'll let you know when it's perfected. {print available}

Snowcone

Nothing beats a snowcone on a hot August day. I know, I know...it's January. Ice is really an odd theme for this month. What was I thinking? Though it is hot somewhere right now...right?

Fish on Ice

I saw an image of fish on ice in a cooler and it made me think once again about our fishing trips to Spooner, Wisconsin. My husband's family has been going there for over 50 years, but the cabins have all been sold off one by one. Maybe we'll have to start a new fishing tradition.

Ice Cold Rootbeer

For those just stopping in, the theme this month is ice.

Though I don't drink much pop, one I do love is rootbeer. Being from Chicago, when I have a great hotdog, it's even nicer paired with a great rootbeer.

What's Tea without Ice?

I mentioned a few months ago that I might paint on drink coasters this year, but as you can see I didn't make that happen. I got a little busy and didn't collect any. I'll stick with playing cards for now and might sneak some coasters in here and there.

Ice Cream Again

I'm sure most of you know by now that I love ice cream, so couldn't leave it out this month.

Ice Cube Popsicles

I'm sure you've all made these as kids. The perfect little popsicle with any flavor you desire. {print available}

Being snowed in allowed me some time to finish my first video...showing my painting process. Click here for a looksie.

Smoothies

I love making smoothies with my new blender. My favorite (and easiest) includes half a banana, orange juice, vanilla yogurt....and ice. It's amazing how crisp a drink becomes with crushed ice.

Ice Cube

Here we are in a new year with a new project. My goal over the next twelve months is to focus my food illustrations (and newsletter) on monthly themes. I plan to post every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

This month's theme is ice. I'd love to hear your ideas on recipes that include ice, plus future monthly theme ideas.

Thanks for sticking with me! I look forward to the year ahead. {print available}
