A SET OF BERRIES

In early 2012 I created this set of berry illustrations. I must have been dreaming of sweetness in the midst of winter.

I've included these on a set of cards in my Etsy Shop too. You can take a peek here.

SWEET LITTLE RASPBERRIES

As I celebrate the planting of our new raspberry shrubs it made me think of a trip my mother-in-law made last year with my husband's aunt.  They visited a raspberry farm and tasted several different cultivars of these pretty berries.  I didn't realize how many types there were...even yellow and orange ones!  I would have loved to try all those sweet little things.

RASPBERRIES IN A BOX

I am so excited! We planted our first raspberry shrubs!  Though it may take a couple of years to enjoy these sweet, red fruits - I'll attempt to be patient.  We'll just relish the strawberries we planted last year for now.

Blueberries

There is something intoxicating about the smell of blueberries.  Does that have something to do with it being a super, healthy food?

Blackberries

I shouldn't be at a loss for what to draw each day, since I eat constantly, but alas, I was without food inspiration for a short time.  Julie on Facebook suggested I draw some berries, so until I actually get to enjoy these in person this summer, I'll share some here instead.

PFB Challenge #7: Video 411

How to Make a Fruitie Smoothie

I am so excited to have made it this far in Foodbuzz's Project Food Blog.
Big thanks to all of you that voted once again!

I remember several weeks ago wondering if I'd make it to the video challenge and speculating about what I could create. After many weeks of deep, food, artsy thinking...this is what evolved. Enjoy! Oh, and you can VOTE here!

A Pear of Gnomes

If you have two gnomes then you must have a pear.

I love pears and mentioned a long time ago that I only eat them out of a can...never fresh. So bad, I know. Can I blame it on my husband since he does the shopping?

Vegetable by Law

Botanically speaking tomatoes are fruit. In the culinary world they are vegetables. Here is an interesting tidbit...in 1883 the tomato was legally defined as a vegetable. Why? Find out more here. Thanks to Leila for sharing this via Facebook.

Fruit or Vegetable?

We've all heard someone say this at one point..."Did you know that a tomato is really a fruit?" Botanically speaking, tomatoes are indeed fruit, as well as, cucumbers, peppers, and anything with seeds inside it.

A broad definition from Wikipedia: a fruit is a structure of a plant that contains its seeds.

The fleshy part is a trick to encourage animals (including us) to eat seeds and in-turn disperse them. You know, the plant kingdom has to survive somehow.

So what exactly is a "vegetable"? Check in tomorrow.

G is for Grapefruit

Pucker up for this traditional, healthy breakfast treat. Thanks to Sandy for the suggestion! {print available}

An interesting tidbit...I was interviewed by Shane from the blog Only Good Movies. If you have any desire to learn about my movie favorites, this is your chance. :) He also has a fun site called A1 Movie Reviews.

Fresh Fruit

Though we have office days of sugar-overload, some days staff bring in wonderful plates of fresh fruit. Last Thursday a co-worker did just that - sliced apples, oranges and grapes. It was refreshing and helped ease a long budget meeting. {thanks Ed!}
